This is a list of possible small upgrades. Current KAGRA design is not optimal considering sensitivity, because of historical reasons, budget constraints, schedule, lack of careful design etc. Add items if you have things you want to change if you have enough time and money.

  • Fibers too long and we cannot cool mirror down to 20 K
  • Marionette magnets for actuator too small
  • Heavier IM (reduce suspension thermal noise but increase seismic noise)
  • Softer (lower vertical resonant frequency) sapphire blade spring

  • Curvature of ITM/ETM
    • Currently RoC = 1.9 km, because we didn't have reference spheres

  • Better local sensors and actuators for suspensions (better OSEMs, better inertia sensors for IP)
