> == Upcoming GW-REMs == ---- === The 138th REM: Mar. 2nd, 2026 === ---- * Time: 14:00-15:00 * Speaker: Ryota Uchigochi (UTokyo) * Title: ''"Searching for GHz Gravitational Waves with Superconducting Cavities"'' * Abstract: {{{ In recent years, the rapid development of superconducting qubits and their related technologies has opened new possibilities for their application in cosmology and particle physics experiments. By combining microwave resonant cavities with ultra-low-temperature quantum and superconducting readout technologies, we have been developing a platform aimed at exploring gravitational waves and dark matter in the GHz/µeV regime with unprecedented sensitivity. In this presentation, we provide an overview of these developments and report on our efforts toward GHz-band gravitational wave searches. Gravitational waves in the GHz frequency range lie in an unexplored region where existing interferometric detectors have little or no sensitivity, and they have attracted attention as promising signals for probing the early Universe and new physics phenomena. To detect such extremely weak signals, we evaluated superconducting cavity resonators capable of maintaining high quality factors (Q) under ultra-low-temperature conditions. In particular, since the cavity quality factor Q directly determines the detection sensitivity, we analyzed the dominant loss mechanisms through measurements performed at cryogenic temperatures. Furthermore, toward future high-sensitivity searches, we present the development strategy for a superconducting solenoid magnet capable of applying magnetic fields up to 400 mT at temperatures around 100 mK, thereby establishing the foundation for constructing a GHz-band gravitational wave detection platform in the mK regime. Through these efforts, we clarify the design guidelines and operational conditions required for enhancing sensitivity in GHz gravitational wave searches and outline prospects for applications to next-generation observation technologies. }}} <
