The quantum noise that limits gravitational-wave detectors has a deep connection to the principles underlying quantum communication. These two fields also share strong foundations in precision measurement and hardware development. Drawing on my experience in research related to quantum noise and in commissioning large-scale interferometric systems, I will describe how expertise from gravitational-wave research can contribute to quantum communication technologies. The talk will outline the fundamentals and current status of quantum communication, introduce ongoing efforts at LQUOM toward practical quantum repeaters, and present the broader vision for the emerging quantum internet. I will also touch on my current role at LQUOM, where my work spans practical implementation as well as research with an academic orientation.
